Do You Suffer From Dry, Cracked Hands?

Many of my fellow bartenders and I always seem to be comparing just who has the ugliest, driest and cracked hands. It's a painful badge of honor. Most bartenders don't have pretty hands. It's impossible. With all of the hand washing, constant submersion in water and exposure to citrus juice, its enough to leave one's hands extremely dry and cracked on a regular basis.

Some people call it Bar Rot. Some call it Eczema. Some just call it an occupational hazard.

I have tried prescription strength ointments, but nothing works as effective as my all-time favorite OTC treatment: Eucerin's Aquaphor Healing Ointment.

Nothing Says Happiness Like...

having a brand new pair of cute and comfortable boots to wear to work. A pair of boots that wont let me slip on my ass behind the bar. I have been waiting for this day to come for months. Today, the search is over. I found the perfect pair.

When a bartender finds a pair of shoes they love to work in, it's a big deal because we spend our entire shift on our feet. No one might look at our feet, but WE DO.

Now my feet are going to be really cute behind the bar. That makes me very excited.

Rent Shirts

This is about the time of the month where girls working in the bar industry start busting out their rent shirts. If you are a female who works in the bar industry where most of your money comes from tips, you own a rent shirt. You might even have three or four. You could be even wearing one of them tonight if you are working.

What is a rent shirt? Everyone knows that rent is due at the beginning of the month. Sometimes the end of the month can be the slowest time of the month for a bartender because everyone is getting ready to pay their rent on the first. This is where the rent shirts come in. A rent shirt is a shirt that females wear to help increase the cash flow behind the bar. A rent shirt helps generate more donations to one's tip jar. In an essence, a rent shirt is generally a low cut, somewhat revealing top that females wear behind the bar in order to help entice men (and sometimes women) to tip them more.

Now don't go crying sexist and feminism on me. I happen to be a proud feminist in that I feel like men and women should be equal. So when it comes to earning money behind the bar, it's fair game. Hey, if a guy bartender can flirt with all the lady customers, I can most definitely wear my rent shirt at the end of the month.

Ice Scoop vs. Tin

Hey all you bartenders out there. Which do you prefer: ice scoop or tin? I have been known to toss my scoop aside and use the tin directly to make drinks, but that move makes me a "ghetto bartender" in some peoples eyes. In all reality, I think it ultimately depends on the type of place you work in. Their house, their rules.

In my opinion, there aint nothing wrong with being a little ghetto....The tin bypasses a whole step and helps me make your drink that much faster.
